I am very pleased with the care of the dentist and staff. My teeth look amazing and fit really well. I would tell everyone to go with them.

Visit our Leeds-based dental hygienist for your regular hygiene check-up and keep your smile bright and beautiful for years to come.
Nearly everyone has gum disease to some degree, and keeping it in check is essential. Our team of dental hygienists help you to maintain good oral hygiene with a thorough assessment that includes Airflow tooth polishing, tailored advice and a preventative treatment plan.
The HQ Dental team highly recommend that everyone should attend regular hygiene appointments for a clean and healthy mouth.
We now offer direct access hygiene appointments. This means that you don’t have to see a dentist first.
This is a routine but thorough cleaning of the teeth and gums that is carried out by a dental hygienist. It is largely a preventative measure but can also be used to reverse or manage gum disease when already present. We recommend that all patients have this procedure every six months, or more frequently if you are in a higher risk group, such as if you are a diabetic or a smoker.
All appointments with our hygienists include tooth polishing to remove surface stains, but more noticeable results can always be achieved with Airflow treatment. This sophisticated cleaning system dramatically cleans and whitens teeth by using a fine jet of pressurised air, water and sodium bicarbonate to safely blast away deep staining. Airflow is a cosmetic deep cleaning treatment that significantly improves tooth brightness and appearance.
Anyone that needs to have a deep scale will already have gum disease that is quite advanced. Whilst a routine hygienist cleaning will clean around the teeth and gum line, a deep clean, or root planing, is used when the bacteria has become a problem further down the tooth, sometimes reaching the root of the tooth and the surrounding bone tissue.
Tailored advice
Your dental hygienist will offer you expert advice on how to improve your oral health to keep your mouth healthy and maintain a confident smile. For example, you may benefit from advice on effective tooth brushing or diet advice to keep your teeth and gums well looked after.
Remove tooth staining
Your dental therapist or hygienist can remove unsightly tooth staining from plaque build-up while providing a good clean of bacteria. This keeps your smile bright and can help to prevent gum disease.
Cost-effective
Regular visits to a dental hygienist will reduce the need for expensive dental treatment later on as it is a great preventative measure for more complex treatment in future. We want to help make sure your teeth last you a lifetime and that you can smile naturally, and with confidence.
The definition of gum disease is swelling, infection or soreness of the supporting tissue around the teeth.
There are two kinds of gum disease:
Gingivitis
The early stage is called gingivitis. This is when your gums appear red and swollen. Your gums might bleed and often the first sign of gingivitis is blood on your toothbrush.
Periodontal disease
If gingivitis is left unchecked it can progress and turn into periodontal disease. This creates bone loss around the teeth making them loose until they eventually fall out. Unfortunately, periodontal disease cannot be cured (or reversed) but it can usually be controlled and the rate of bone loss can be slowed and sometimes stopped.
Most tooth loss in adults is caused by gum disease. Regular hygiene appointments are the most important and effective way of keeping your teeth for life.
As well as causing bad breath, sensitivity and taste issues, gum disease can affect your general health too. Gum disease has now been linked to cardiovascular disease, dementia, strokes, diabetes and poor Covid-19 outcomes.
The only way to keep gum disease under control is to have regular hygiene treatment.
Gum disease is caused by plaque (which is a by-product of bacteria) and to keep it under control it is essential to remove the plaque regularly and thoroughly.
Treating gum disease is done During a standard hygiene appointment with a dental hygienist. The team here at HQ Dental will thoroughly remove all the plaque from around your teeth using ultrasonic or hand scalers.
